Politics are dirty. Most Americans feel either powerless to do anything to bring about change or are simply too passive about the issues to do anything. So what is to be done to change these attitudes? That is the real question. Do politicians nowadays truly act in ways that are in the best interests of the people they represent? Do they even know what those people want? Do we write letters and let them know what we want? Do we feel that if we do write letters our voices will even be heard? Personally I feel that in all of the above mentioned cases the answer is no.
The health care bill passed. Is this really in the best interests of the American people? Congress will claim that yes it is, but have not ironed out very important details as to how exactly this will help. Is it honestly in the best interests of the majority of the American people? Or will it cause more problems than it solves?
Some things sound incredibly good in theory but are not as good in practice. Communism for example sounds great-- in theory. Equality for everybody, nobody has more or less than their neighbor. Everybody contributes the same and gets the same. Problem, nowhere at any time in history has communism worked for the good of the people. Leaders get greedy and want more than their share. We as humans are not all created the same, therefore how can we all contribute the same exact amount? Eventually some people will get greedy, people get lazy and the system fails. No system is perfect, but thus far history has proven that capitalism works the best despite its many flaws.
And what you may ask does all this have to do with cake cookies? Well, nothing, but my roommates and I were discussing while making cake cookies the other night and it sounded like a good title.
